Our Philanthropies

Our Chapter has chosen to make "giving back" to our community a fundamental purpose in our organization. Since our founding in 2000, we have made it a point to support our national philanthropies, adopt a new local philanthropy each year, as well as various organizations our members have contact with.

Why do we feel community service and philanthropy is important?
"As alumnae we have lived long enough to have received many gifts in our life, there comes a time when giving is so much more rewarding than receiving, it touches your heart in a way nothing else does. You feel like maybe the space on the planet you have been occupying might really have benefited from you being there after all." Nancy (Nugent) Morley, Retired Teacher

"Community Service is an outstanding way for one to get personally involved with others. It's not because you have to, but because you want to. It makes you feel extremely advantaged when you can provide help for someone who might otherwise be struggling financially, physically and/or mentally. ASA makes a commitment to philanthropy because we are very fortunate and blessed in our own lives that we have the opportunity to assist others. I personally invite you to join us in any capacity you can." Jen (Bartels) Pahl

Organizations we make donations to:
*Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation - a yearly financial donation to assist the Foundation in providing educational programming to all of our national organization members.

 * The S. June Smith Center - a yearly donation of either supplies desired or a financial donation to be utilized as needed. The S. June Smith Center is a private non-profit agency providing early identification, education, training and therapy to infants and children in Lancaster County, PA with developmental disabilities and delays.

*Leadership Consultant Care Packages - each year we purchase items our traveling Leadership Consultants may need during their travels to our numerous collegiate chapters. We do this in celebration of one of our exemplars, St. Valentine, who is a sign that love shall never perish from the Earth.

*Garage Sale - this is an event where we sell items we may no longer need, we in turn make financial donations to local organizations and take the unsold items to the Humane Society, Women's Shelter and the YMCA in our area.

*American Cancer Society - Our chapter members raise money and participate in area "Making Strides for Breast Cancer" walks. This year alone, we raised $731.00 from the Flint & Saginaw Walks.

*Underground Railroad Shelter of Saginaw - Our chapter has decided to select this organization for our "local philanthropy." We donate clothing and various supplies to the shelter's members.

*Local Collegiate Chapters - We donate either supplies or money to our local collegiate chapters for their philanthropies or needs: Beta Theta, Delta Sigma, and Delta Nu
